Statement of faith
We believe the Holy Bible (66 canonized books/letters) to be inspired by the Holy Spirit, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21).
We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1, Exodus 3:14; 6:2-3; 15:11; 20:1-17, Deuteronomy 6:4-5, Isaiah 37:16; 43:3; 43:10-13, Jeremiah 10:10, Mark 1:9-11. John 4:24; 5:26-27; 14:6-13; 17:1-8, Second Corinthians 13:14, Colossians 1:15-20).
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood on the cross and was buried, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and in His personal return in power and glory (John 5:39; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Corinthians 15:4; Acts 2:9-11).
We believe that mankind was created in the image of God, holy and innocent; that of their own choice they sinned and as result, brought death upon all humanity (Romans 3:23, 5:12, and 6:23). Those who are not saved from sin are eternally separated from God (John 3:18).
We believe that we are saved by grace through faith, apart from works, that all are sinners and fall short of the glory of God, and that all sinners who repent and personally accept the finished work of Christ on the cross become children of God. That those who are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ are new creatures in Christ and have the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 2:8, 9; John 1:12; 2 Corinthians 5:17; John 14:17).
We believe that Jesus Christ is coming again for His church and to establish His kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost: the saved unto resurrection of eternal life and the lost unto resurrection of eternal damnation (John 14:3; Titus 1:13; I Thessalonians 5:16,17; Revelation 20:6; 20:14,15; 22:1-5).
We believe that the term marriage has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture (Genesis 2:18-25). We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other (1 Corinthians 6:18, 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4). We believe that God's command is that there be no sexual intimacy outside of or apart from marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that God wonderfully foreordained and immutably created each person as either male or female in conformity with their biological sex. These two distinct yet complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God (Genesis 1:26-27
We believe that through preaching, teaching and ministering the Word of God, this Rescue Ministry must use all of its resources and activities to share the Gospel and demonstrate Gods love to hurting men, women and children. That these individuals may have victory over sin and come into fellowship with God and live a Spirit-filled, fruitful life in Christ (Romans 10:1-15, Ephesians 4:17-24; 5:15-21).

History
In the early 1970s a small group of Salt Lake-based Christian businessmen regularly drove from Salt Lake to Ogden to serve at the only Christ-centered homeless service provider in the State of Utah - The Ogden Rescue Mission. On one trip, a father and son team, Don and Dan Kramer, invited Kay Nakashima, a friend and fellow Christian businessmen to come along. On the return trip, Kay asked why they drove past homeless people in the Salt Lake area to head north. Kay's question led to this small group of men along with their families to establish the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake.
In 1972 - after much prayer and second mortgages on four of our founders' homes, the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake began serving our homeless friends and neighbors in the downtown Salt Lake area.
Since then, the Rescue Mission has developed services to meet the immediate needs of our homeless friends (food, shelter, clothing, and more) as well as comprehensive, life-changing programs to provide a pathway off the streets through addiction recovery, Christian education, employment, housing, and restoration of relationships. This includes the addition of our Center for Women in 1984 where women and children have a safe place to find shelter, clothing, counselling, and addiction recovery services.
Better Together - In 2019 God brought this story full-circle. After years of friendship and collaboration, the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake and Ogden Rescue Mission joined together as one organization that could care for Utah's most vulnerable populations along the Wasatch Front.
Today the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake provides over 700 daily meals to the homeless and low-income communities in Ogden and Salt Lake. Each night we provide safe, comfortable shelter for 300 men, women, and children who have nowhere else to go.
Our goal remains the same as it was back in 1972: To love God with all of our soul, to love our neighbors, and to help our homeless friends find faith and serve God with all of their being. To end homelessness and restore lives.
