Summary

Songtime is a resource ministry that teaches the Word of God in a Christ-centered way with a gospel focus. It is primarily based in New England to reach New England with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Christ-Centered: At the forefront of everything that we do is an effort to point people to Christ.

Gospel-Driven: The gospel is not only for unbelievers, it is for Christians as well. It is the power for a transformed life, and it is the hope for a hurting world.

Scripture-Based: Whether through interviews, articles, or teaching, our communication is always based on the authority of the Word of God.

Each day thousands of radio listeners, on over 45 stations throughout the Northeast, hear a message centering on the gospel from a variety of leading scholars, Bible teachers, pastors, and authors. Through our print and publication ministry, our readers see probing and pastoral articles from a variety of writers that regularly draw them to go deeper into the Word of God and further in their walk with Christ. Every year at our Definitions Conferences we host leading Bible teachers who speak to an audience of over 600, helping them go deeper in their understanding of the Word of God and offering doctrinal clarification on key elements of the faith.

Purpose

According to the Barna Research Group, seven of the top ten post-Christian cities are in the Northeast. Pew Research suggests that the evangelical population in the Northeast is only 13%, and yet those listed as Non-Religious almost double the evangelical population at 25%. Church Relevant found 49 of the 100 least evangelical counties were in the Northeast. Each of these counties are under 3% evangelical whereas the national average is above 23%. As a ministry in New England serving New England, it is our burden to come alongside of the local Church to build it up to affect the surrounding culture.

Mission statement

Songtime's purpose as a non-denominational parachurch ministry is to support the efforts of the "church" organism primarily through the media of radio, but also through tapes, the internet, conferences, books, and other printed material. Songtime's broadcast is focused in the area of "spiritual obstetrics - evangelism" and spiritual pediatrics - discipleship". Songtime also helps promote the efforts of many other ministries, as well as the many special projects of Songtime USA. Our motto, "Many Voices, One Message" tells of Songtime's unique approach to ministry through our assistance to others in their endeavor to spread the Gospel. We also use and share our technical "know how" to help others be more effective in their ministry.

Statement of faith

We believe in the inspiration of the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments; the creation of man by the direct act of God; the Incarnation, the Virgin Birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; His identification as the Son of God; His vicarious atonement for the sins of mankind by the shedding of His blood on the Cross; the Resurrection of His body from the tomb; His power to save man from sin; the new birth through the regeneration of the Holy Spirit; and the gift of Eternal Life by the Grace of God.

History

Songtime has been on the radio in New England for over 50 years. Founded by Dr. John DeBrine in 1963, it has been a staple for the evangelical community in the Northeast for over half a century. As a trusted voice, it has used its reach to draw people closer in their walk with Christ. Since 2013, Songtime's current President and Host, Rev. Adam Miller, has further developed the programming to reach the current needs of New England by building up the body of Christ in the foundations of the faith and motivating the Church to go outward with this knowledge and the love of God to reach their neighbors, cities, and communities.

Dr. John DeBrine, Founder and President Emeritus, has been used by God to preach the Word over the radio for over 60 years. Prior to his full time involvement with Songtime, Dr. DeBrine served eleven years as the pastor at Ruggles Street Baptist Church in Boston.

He started his radio ministry in the 1950's as an outreach of his church to introduce the public to their ministry. In 1964, he left the pastorate to dedicate his efforts to the daily broadcast of Songtime USA. The early broadcasts had a unique format, incorporating and integrating the use of musical segments with Biblical teaching segments. That same format continues to have a powerful impact today. Dr. DeBrine was also very involved in Youthtime and Youth for Christ, two ministries that had a profound impact on the youth of that era.

His educational background includes Houghton College, The University of Rochester, and Boston University. He holds a Master's Degree in Communications from Boston University, and an Honorary Doctorate from Houghton College.

John has earned the 50-year lifetime achievement award by the National Religious Broadcasters for his faithful dedication to preaching and teaching the Word for over half a century.

Early in 2013, at the age of 88, Dr. DeBrine had a fall and broke his hip. At that time, he had been mentoring a young man, Adam Miller, who was working as Songtime's office manager. Adam stepped into the role, believing it to be temporary, but it soon became evident that John would be unable to continue broadcasting full time, and he began doing only the weekend programs. Adam has become the new "voice" of Songtime, as John took on the role of President Emeritus with a supporting and advisory role.

Songtime moved to Cape Cod in the 1980's and worked out of a building on Attuck's Lane in Hyannis. As time went on, the operation moved to Route 6A in Yarmouth Port and now in downtown Hyannis where it is currently located. The staff consists of Adam Miller as host, Mark Shrauger as program producer, Cheryl Moos as office administrator, and many, many, volunteers who help with office tasks, mailings, conferences and other formidable tasks.

Over the years, Songtime has held numerous events, including weekend conferences, retreats, and trips. Currently you can hear Songtime on over 40 stations throughout the Northeast and streaming online.
