Purpose
China Outreach Ministries (COM) staff reach out to Chinese students and scholars in university communities across the United States, helping them adapt to life in America and introducing them to Jesus.
We offer hospitality, social activities, conversational English, and a variety of practical services to help Chinese students and scholars succeed.
As we build friendships, we share Christ and offer Bible studies.
We mentor and disciple those who come to Christ and, working with local churches and ministries as much as possible, help believers who return to China become Christ-like leaders for their families, communities, and professions.
Mission statement
China Outreach Ministries is a Christian mission organization which focuses on Giving Christ to China's Future Leaders (i.e. current university students, research scholars, and professionals) at universities and research centers, primarily in North America, by:

Statement of faith
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful man regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

History
China Outreach Ministries (COM), initiated by Rev. Stephen Wang, a pastor from China, began in London during the 1950s under the name Chinese Overseas Christian Mission (COCM). In 1959, Fred and Frances Pyke, long-term American missionaries to China, organized COCM/USA, and in the 1960s COCM and COCM/USA began operating as separate organizations. Under the leadership of Rev. Donald McIntosh, COCM/USA began raising funds to support Christian radio broadcasts into China through the programming of Far East Broadcasting Company and later through Trans World Radio.
In 1988 with the influx of thousands of Mainland Chinese graduate students and scholars to U.S. and Canadian campuses, COM began to shift its primary focus to campus ministry in North America. Under the direction of then President Earnest Hummer, COM began placing staff at major campuses where large numbers of Chinese study or do research. The organization became China Outreach Ministries in 1993 and, in 2002, installed its third president, Dr. Glen Osborn. After sixteen years of growth and the addition of a new leadership center, Reverend Daniel Su became the fourth COM president and first Chinese leader of COM.
Over the years COM's ministry has grown from a few campuses in the East to a nationwide ministry among Chinese students and scholars. Campus staff have developed multi-faceted ministries, including friendship evangelism, hospitality, Bible studies, ESL classes, discipleship training, translating and publishing resource materials, and holding retreats and conferences through which Chinese men and women come to Christ and return to China as Christian leaders.
Program accomplishments
Each year thousands of Chinese students and scholars are introduced to the gospel through COM ministry on university campuses. As many become followers of Jesus, we walk alongside them, equipping them to live out their faith in their families, communities, and professions. Each year, COM sends transformed Christian leaders back to China, prepared and committed to being ambassadors of the gospel for their own people and culture.
