Purpose
Christian Shelter is a temporary, emergency shelter providing safe housing and meals and for men, women and children who are homeless. While a warm bed and a hot meal are the most immediate needs the Shelter satisfies, they are not the most important. The love of God ministered through a caring staff member, who is willing to listen and prepared to point hurting people to resources for employment, counseling, financial assistance and stable housing, offer the possibility of a more lasting change. Even more important, however, is the opportunity to receive the life changing power of Jesus Christ offered to Shelter guests daily through staff prayer and spiritual direction and the ministry of volunteer clergy and church leaders in evening devotions and Sunday worship.
Mission statement
The mission of the Christian Shelter is to minister to the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of people in crisis through the provision of safe shelter, nutritious meals, practical and spiritual direction and the life changing good news of Jesus Christ!

History
Program accomplishments
Since Christian Shelter first opened its doors in December, 1980, it has sheltered and ministered to more than 28,400 individuals and has served more than 500,000 meals.
Needs
The annual cost of operating Christian Shelter is significant and steadily rising. It includes all utilities and on-going maintenance and repair of our 60 plus year old, former shirt factory building. It also includes the cost of equipment and supplies needed to house and minister to the needs of up to 72 homeless people, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week year round; and provides a modest remuneration for a very dedicated staff of 3 administrative workers and 10 part-time night and support staff.
