Summary
Since its inception in 1974, BMDMI has worked to strengthen and expand its ministry of evangelism and Christian service in some of the poorest nations in the world - Honduras, Nicaragua, Nepal and Guatemala. Through the array of ministries, including short-term medical/dental and evangelism teams, children's homes, schools, Bible institutes, and other gospel-centered programs, BMDMI allows volunteers to serve alongside full-time missionaries for the purpose of reaching people with the love and salvation of Jesus Christ.
BMDMI ministries and missionaries are fully supported by the contributions of interested individuals and churches, and are not under the auspices of any other organization or institution.

Purpose
God only promises to bless His plan. God's plan for reaching the world is through making DISCIPLES. Making disciples involves a long-term commitment to teach God's Word and show how to live it out in the real world by example. Discipleship is at the heart of every minstry we participate in. It is the only way to multiply leaders who take the Gospel message to the world.
We believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only true remedy to the problems of this world. Many work to try to change the world through education, sensitization, health initiatives and more. While these things are good, they always fall short because the hearts of people are not changed and they will continue to make self-destructive decisions which lead to poverty, crime, poor health, and abuse. Change can only occur when there is a change of heart, and the human heart can only be changed by God when we enter into a personal relationship with Him and allow Him to become Lord and Master of our life.
For this reason, the message of the Gospel is incorporated into everything we do as an organization. It is our desire to empower all those with whom we work and this is done through developing relationships that afford us the opportunity to share the hope of the Gospel and then enter into a discipleship relationship with those who make decisions to follow Christ. Discipleship relationships are the key to empowering followers of Christ to become mature in their faith and to be faithful to take the message of the hope of the Gospel to their family and friends. In this way hearts are changed, communities are changed, and nations are changed.
Our time and resources are limited, but by empowering others we can have a much greater impact in our world. It is our greatest hope and desire that God will send out missionaries from the churches we support in Central America to take the message of the Gospel to the uttermost parts of the world. Please pray with us and join us in the work of the Great Commission to take the Gospel to the nations.
Mission statement
Baptist Medical & Dental Mission International exists under the Lordship of Jesus Christ to evangelize the lost, disciple the saved, and minister to the needs of the poor.
Statement of faith
The Inspiration of the Bible
We believe the Bible is the verbally inspired Word of God.
(Jer. 30:2, II Timothy 3:16, II Peter 1:20,21)
The Person of God
We believe God is supreme in His person, eternal in His being, absolute in His attributes, glorious in His perfection. We believe in the Trinity.
(Gen. 1:1, Isa. 6:1, Deut. 6:4, Matt. 6:9)
The Person of Jesus Christ
We believe in the virgin birth of Christ, His deity and sinless life, His vicarious death, His bodily resurrection, and in His personal pre-millennial return.
(Matt. 1:18,20, II Cor. 5:21, I Cor. 15:3-4)
The Person of the Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Godhead. We believe that he executes the plan of God for our conviction and salvation. From the time of conversion, the Holy Spirit resides in the body of the believer and empowers him/her for God's service.
(Col. 2:9, Matt. 10:16, John 14:16)
The Fall of Man
We believe that man was created in the image of God and by choice man fell into sin and death. Hence, every person is sinful and under condemnation to eternal judgment.
(Gen. 2:16, Gen. 3:1, 7, Rom. 5:6, 11)
The Salvation of Sinners
We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace, and that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation.
(Eph. 2:8 & 9, John 3:16, John 5:24, John 3:36)
The Freeness of Salvation
We believe that the blessings of salvation are made free by the Gospel to all who repent of their sins and accept Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, and that nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner but his own inherent depravity and voluntary rejection of the Gospel.
(Rom. 3:24, Eph. 2:8-10, Titus 3:5)
The Security of the Believer
We believe that those who receive Jesus Christ as their Savior are eternally secure. Our security rests on the finished work of Jesus Christ. As a result, we have assurance.
(II Tim. 1:12, Rom. 8:35 & 39)
The Doctrine of the Church
We believe that the visible church is a congregation of baptized believers, practicing New Testament principles, believing its doctrine, observing it's ordinances, and exercising its autonomy.
(Matt. 16:18, Eph. 3:10 & 11, Cor. 3:11)
The Doctrine of Heaven and Hell
We believe in the eternal blessedness of the saved in heaven and the eternal punishment of the lost in Hell.
(I Thes. 4:13, John 14:1 &6, Matt. 25:31 & 46, Rev. 20:10 &15)

History
Prior to BMDMI's establishment, the Herringtons, Founders of BMDMI, served in Honduras for six years working in evangelism and church development. The Lord richly blessed their early ministry efforts evidenced by the three churches planted during that time. However, the Herringtons were constantly heart-broken as they saw people suffering from the lack of basic medical and dental care. On one occasion, they discovered a woman passing through the last stages of cancer without even an aspirin to ease the pain. Countless other times, they met people with teeth rotted to the gum line. Instances such as these led them to ask the Lord what more they could do to help ease the pain and suffering that surrounded them. The Lord gave them a vision of what today we know as "short-term mission teams" - Christian volunteers traveling to the mission field and paying their own expenses to serve the poor and sick. These teams draw thousands of people to hear the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and offer medical and dental services free of charge.
1974 - BMDMI Established
Baptist Medical & Dental Mission International was founded in 1974 by Missionaries Charlie and Carolyn Herrington in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The first team in 1974 consisted of seven volunteers; and every year since then, the number of teams and volunteers has grown.
1986 - BMDMI Mourned a Loss
Charlie Herrington went home to be with the Lord. The Hondurans mourned the loss of a spiritual father and BMDMI mourned the loss of a dedicated, dynamic leader. However, BMDMI belongs to no person, but rather to the Lord, so the work continues.
1989 - BMDMI Expanded to Nicaragua
BMDMI expanded its ministry beyond the borders of Honduras to the neighboring country of Nicaragua offering medical-dental care, planting local churches, and preparing Christian leaders.
1992 - BMDMI Accepted Their First Full-Time Missionaries
Responding to growing needs in these two countries, BMDMI founded and operates Christian schools, permanent medical-dental clinics, vocational training centers, and children's homes. To oversee the work of these ministries, BMDMI took on the role of a missionary sending agency, accepting its first full-time missionaries.
2012 - BMDMI Expands into Nepal
BMDMI extended its mission outside of Central America and into Nepal - the world's only Hindu nation.
2014 - BMDMI Begins Serving Guatemala
BMDMI began serving in Guatemala. As the Lord provides and makes clear, and as servants are sent into the fields, BMDMI will continue to expand with the Gospel message of Jesus Christ!
